Life and Death of Marsha P. Johnson: Film Viewing

IN HONOUR OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH, LETHBRIDGE PRIDE IS PROUD TO PRESENT:

LIFE AND DEATH OF MARSHA P. JOHNSON:

FILM VIEWING HOSTED AT THE MOVIE MILL

Join us, February 15th, 6:15 PM - 8:15 PM for a FREE viewing of “Life and Death of Marsha P. Johnson,” a film about the mysterious 1992 death of black gay rights activist and Stonewall veteran, Marsha P. Johnson.

To attend, you MUST reserve your FREE ticket through our eventbrite using the link below!

Film length: 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Snacks can be purchased at the concession.

Admission for the night is free.

⁕ Wheel-chair ramp ⁕

FILM DESCRIPTION:

When Stonewall Veteran and beloved Greenwich Village personality Marsha P Johnson turned up dead shortly after Gay Pride in 1992, it was the latest in a series of murders, gay bashings, and "mysterious" deaths in the local gay community. Johnson is seen in footage at a political march shortly before this, at an action trying to draw attention to these hate crimes. Tragically, Johnson then becomes the next victim. Like the other suspicious deaths, Johnson's death is quickly dismissed as a "suicide", even though there is no evidence that Johnson was suicidal, and significant evidence that Johnson was harassed and stalked on that very night. Demonstrations are held to protest the lack of police investigation, but it is not until decades later that transgender crime advocate Victoria Cruz succeeds in getting some answers.

Our Dance of Revolution: Film Viewing

IN HONOUR OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH, LETHBRIDGE PRIDE IS PROUD TO PRESENT:

OUR DANCE OF REVOLUTION: FILM VIEWING.

Film length: 1 hour and 42 minutes.

Snacks will be provided by Lethbridge Pride Fest.

Admission for the night is free.

⁕ Wheel-chair ramp ⁕ All-gender washrooms ⁕

FILM DESCRIPTION:

This untold history of Toronto's Black queer community spans four decades of passionate activist rebellion. Refusing to be silenced and raging with love, the featured trailblazers demanded a city where they could all live their truths free from the threat of violence. In the spaces they found for loud laughter and sweaty block parties, they also found themselves. Each bit of revolutionary ground was gained collaboratively, whether protesting police brutality, forming feminist collectives or making room for grief and healing in the wake of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Their transformative creativity and visionary organizing made Toronto more livable for generations to follow. Our Dance of Revolution celebrates the living legends among us by unearthing what has been made invisible.

Trans March

Help Lethbridge Pride kick-off Pride Week by joining us for the Trans March!

This march is so important, especially after the many efforts in the past year to erase, censor, and harm our trans community all around the world; this march signifies the strength we have in numbers and to honor our fierce trans community.

We will start by gathering at the Galt Garden’s park by the stage area prior to 12:00 PM and then march to Lethbridge City Hall. We encourage you all to get dressed up in your best pride gear, make signs, bring flags, and just feel free to express yourself and your “pride” the best way you know how!

All are welcome, but please remember to exercise responsible allyship and recognize that the voices of the trans community take precedence in this space.
